Design

Lately I am very in touch with term ‘design’. Do you think that design is only making visible things? Like logo, poster, web and other stuffs such as furniture designed by IKEA or Furnika? From many articles I’ve read, the answer is no. Design is beyond of all the mentioned. Design can be a tool to make other people empowered by themselves. But How?

Design can create invisible thing which is embedded in people’s daily life and behavior.

What do you think, 

if teacher in this country teach with their sense of empathy, full of awareness that what they taught can improve human’s life?
 If the poverty can be solved by changing the way they do their work become more effective, so they can improve their economy?
If the poor can maximize the potential they have?
If the poor’s problem mainly in Africa, can be solved by making something matters for them such as effective way to get water, or how to make nutritious meal with all they have?
If the farmers in a country can use their field to maximize yields as much as possible so this country no need to import rice anymore? It happened in Israel, where the farmers use even the badlands to plan any vegetable.
If the information technology can be used effectively by its users? The users feel happy when using it, and can increase happiness while working and effectively increase their performance in work, make the business process as simple as possible.
If this country have excellent health service, either in hospital and also in national health insurance? So it can be win-win solution for all the stakeholders and for poor people.

There are still many If-If

Many country outside such as UK, Netherland and US have already some consultant company that focus only on design, either designing for society/people or designing digital properties. Such as IDEO.org and Design Council from UK, AmIDesigner from Netherland, Fantasy.co from USA.

I am really ‘merinding’ if read the companies’ vision and mission.

Design considers some human aspect beside the science and social aspect, in making things. Design also consider aesthetics in making all the deliverables.

The design involve many step which need empathy as the main modals, curiosity as the main weapon to deepen knowledge about existing condition, and communication as the foremost army to connect with the target audience.
Design simply can create best and working solution for people's problem.

May be in the next post, I’ll share everything I know about design in the real meaning.
